Ismail Jatoi, M.D., Ph.D., FACS

Dr. Ismail Jatoi is a surgical oncologist and Director of the Breast Care Center at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He also holds a faculty appointment at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Dr. Jatoi received his undergraduate bachelor's degree from Washington University in St. Louis and his medical and doctorate degrees from St. Louis University. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Jatoi completed his surgical oncology training at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, England.

He has authored or co-authored more than 70 articles, book chapters, and books. He was the primary author of the Atlas of Breast Surgery, published by Springer, and the Manual of Breast Diseases, published by Lippincott. He has a particular interest in cancer epidemiology and the local therapy of breast cancer and has served on the Breast Cancer Executive Committee of the Southwest Oncology Group and the Cancer Prevention Committee of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Jatoi holds the rank of Colonel in the U.S. Army. During a military career spanning nearly 20 years, Dr. Jatoi has held various assignments worldwide that have included clinical, administrative, and academic responsibilities. He has also served in several combat deployments and received numerous military awards, including the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medals and the Army Achievement Medals.
