2009 SEER Workshop: Statistics for Cancer Registrars
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
The 2009 SEER workshop will be a 1-day interactive overview of cancer statistics for registrars. Registrars will review basic statistical concepts with an emphasis on how statistics can be useful to job function. Types of statistics, data availability, and statistical reports will be discussed in detail, showing their pertinence to central and hospital registries.
Participants will be able to:
- Understand how basic cancer statistics are calculated
- Understand what basic cancer statistics tell you and how they are useful to you on your job
- Learn to communicate with an administrator (including learning how to present significant statistics and how to make your work valuable to them)
- Learn how your cancer records are used at state and Federal levels to guide cancer intervention programs, inform policymakers, and provide useful information to physicians and patients
