The Fifth Protein Structure Initiative “Bottlenecks” Workshop will be a 2-day meeting and will include platform and poster presentations addressing the technical barriers to the high throughput determination of protein structure. The first day will begin with a keynote presentation by Dr. Claire Fraser-Liggett, Director of the Institute for Genome Research, followed by platform talks from representatives of each of the 10 U54 centers that comprise the research network of the Protein Structure Initiative. These talks will outline the goals of each center’s effort in the particular context of technologies which are either being applied and/or are under development. The day will end with a poster session.

The second day will be devoted to four topical sessions: (1) eukaryotic protein production, (2) membrane protein production, (3) high throughput protein crystallization, and (4) high throughput NMR methods. Each of these sessions will begin with an outstanding presenter from outside the Initiative, followed by a series of talks in this topical area from participants in the PSI. These latter presentations will be promoted to the platform from the poster abstracts submitted by meeting participants. As with the past four annual workshops, we hope to stimulate the freest and most energetic exchange on the issues of the day in high throughput protein structure determination among participants in our Initiative at all levels. While the meeting is organized for PSI participants and invitees, others may attend on a space-available basis. Please forward all inquiries to Dr. Charles G. Edmonds, (301) 594-4428 or edmondsc@nigms.nih.gov.
