HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
To advance the dissemination of new advances in Patient Safety and Health Information Technology (HIT), the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is seeking grantee participation in sessions planned for the Annual Meeting for Patient Safety and Health Information Technology. Although your projects may be in the preliminary stages, we would like you to take advantage of any early opportunities to share your experiences with your colleagues.
We invite your ideas for participation in individual sessions of the annual meeting by making session presentations, participating in panel discussions, or leading workshops. We would like to hear from you on both the substance of your potential contribution as well as your recommendation for the format; however, here are some of our suggestions:
- Early success stories, challenges, and surprises . Do you have a specific story to tell about how your project has achieved success or addressed early challenges associated with planning, implementation, or evaluation of HIT? Did you encounter any unforeseen issues? We invite you to share anecdotes with your colleagues on how you achieved success or addressed adversities early in your project.
- Results of preliminary assessment or evaluation activities. Does your project include completing a structured assessment of computing infrastructure, user readiness, or potential vendors? Does your project include conducting baseline assessments of quality of care or error rates to be used in a pre/post evaluation following HIT implementation? We invite you to discuss your experience designing and conducting these activities and to present your findings.
- Issues for group discussion or framework construction. Would you like to facilitate or participate with colleagues in a group discussion regarding how to define the value of health IT? Or discuss how health care providers perceive the business case for health IT in the real world? Do you have an approach to considering an issue that you would like to share with colleagues and brainstorm with them on how to refine it? We invite you to consider proposing subjects and formats for facilitated group discussions that you would be willing to lead or co-lead.
Link your contribution to conference tracks. Based on input from you and your colleagues, AHRQ has selected seven tracks for organizing conference sessions. These tracks are summarized as an attachment to this announcement. We request that, if possible, you match your contribution to one of these tracks. SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS AND APPLICATION FORM
- Please fill out the application form and include a written proposal up to 2 pages in length. Applications and proposals are encouraged from all AHRQ grantees and grantee consortium members. Please make sure your proposal is no longer than two pages (MS Word, 8 ½- by 11-inch paper, 11 point font, single-spaced, 1-inch margins) and addresses the following points.

- A summary of your proposed contribution, with emphasis on its relevance to other grantees
- A detailed description of the format best suited for your contribution or presentation
