The Public Health Emergency Medical Countermeasures Enterprise (PHEMCE) Stakeholders Workshop 2008 and BARDA Industry Day will include opportunities for BARDA's industry stakeholders to present information on medical countermeasure development programs to an audience of researchers and public health experts from the private and public sectors. We are currently accepting abstracts for:
- Oral presentation during the BARDA Industry Day
- Participation in evening poster sessions
- Presentation of a tabletop exhibition booth
These abstracts will be evaluated by Program Committee comprising scientists from the Federal Government. Abstracts will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Alignment with the top priority medical countermeasure programs, as defined by the HHS Public Health Emergency Medical Countermeasures Enterprise Implementation Plan for CBRN Threats or HHS Pandemic Influenza Plan
- Level of maturity of the medical countermeasure development program
- Potential for broad-spectrum antibacterial or antiviral use
- Application of platform technology

Presentation Formats
All those wishing to present their technology in oral, poster, or exhibit booth format must submit an abstract. These abstracts will be evaluated by a Program Committee. BARDA will accept submissions for one or more of the following presentation options:
- All oral presentations will be twenty (20) minutes in length, followed by a 5-minute period for questions and answers.
- All posters must be 3x6 feet. Posters will be available during the first 2 days of the Workshop and presenters may be assigned to a specific day.
- All exhibition booths will be given an 8x10 standard booth. Exhibitors will be expected to staff their booths during all exhibit hours.

Abstract Format
Abstract text should be in 11-point Arial font and single-spaced. The total character limit is 2,500 characters. Authors, affiliations, abstract title, and abstract text are included in the 2,500-character limit. Spaces are not included. Submitted abstracts that include a character count of 2,500 or less will be reviewed by the Program Committee. Abstracts exceeding the 2,500 character count will not be reviewed by the Program Committee or considered further.
Authors
Enter each author's contact information, including: "Name," "E-mail," "Institution," "City," and "State." The author and affiliation information will be included in the 2,500-character limit; spaces are not counted. Please review the spelling of each author's name and affiliation.
Title
Capitalize the first letter of each word except prepositions, articles, and species names, and italicize scientific names of all organisms. The title should be one sentence summarizing the topic of interest. The abstract title will be included in the 2,500-character limit; spaces are not counted.
Presentation Type
Indicate all of the categories for which your abstract should be considered. Stakeholders are encouraged to select multiple possibilities for exhibiting, as your first choice may not be available.
Abstract Review and Disposition
Abstracts submitted for consideration for the PHEMCE Stakeholders Workshop and BARDA Industry Day will be reviewed by the Program Committee. The Committee will determine if the abstract merits inclusion in the program and, if accepted, will schedule the abstract in the appropriate session for the meeting. Whether or not an abstract is selected for presentation, poster, or exhibit booth, it will be made available to all attendees in the abstract compilation that will be part of the meeting materials. Please indicate if you do not want your abstract included in this compilation.

In the abstract introduction text, please directly address your product's current stage of development. Only those products at an advanced stage will be considered. [Note: The Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act (P.L. 109-417) defines advanced research and development as "activities that predominantly are conducted after basic research and preclinical development of the product; and are related to manufacturing the product on a commercial scale and in a form that satisfies the regulatory requirements under the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act..."].
Abstract Text
Complete each section of the text in the Abstract submission form: "Introduction," "Methods," "Results", and "Conclusions." Do NOT repeat abstract title, authors, or affiliation information in abstract text. Total character limit is 2,500 characters, including title, author, and affiliation information previously entered.
Review Your Work
It is important to review your abstract submission in order to proof accuracy of all elements of the submitted abstract, including authors' names and scientific terminology.
Disclaimer
Unless otherwise requested, all abstracts submitted will be made available to attendees as part of the meeting materials. As a reminder, the PHEMCE Stakeholders Workshop and BARDA Industry Day will be open to the public, and we are anticipating significant interest from both industry and Government representatives. Each participant is responsible for determining that the information contained in both abstracts and presentations is not procurement-sensitive or business confidential.
All information submitted in response to this Call for Abstracts is voluntary and the Government will not pay for information requested nor will it compensate any respondent for any cost incurred in developing information provided to the Government.
